George Benson & Kenny G Breezin’ & Breathless Tour

George Benson and Kenny G have announced a joint tour that will start in May, and run through October.  It is called the Breezin' & Breathless Tour.  In 2017, Benson's Breezin' will be celebrating it's 40th anniversary, while Breathless will celebrate it's 25th year in existence.

Let us break this down, shall we?

40 years of anything is an accomplishment in itself.  You can probably argue that Breezin' is the album that brought jazz into the mainstream.  If anyone was to do that, Mr. Benson would be the one.  I mean, his guitar is right on point, but he can also sing.

The title track sets the tone for the entire album.  A nice mid-tempo instrumental that makes you feel like that you are actually sitting on a chair - outdoors - feeling the warm breeze on your face as you enjoy the spring weather.  By the way, Breezin' has been sampled 25 times by other artists, including DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, Rahiem, The-Dream, and Donny Osmond.

You the track has to be tight if Donny Osmond samples it!

The album also includes Affirmation, a Jose Feliciano song that became a big hit for Benson.  The monster hit, though, was This Masquerade.  Normally if the song is played on the radio, you will hear the edited version.  The original clocks in at a healthy eight minutes long.  It has a nice intro before the beat kicks in.

I personally will not settle for the radio version.

Breezin' won three Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year.  Tommy LiPuma was the Producer.

The Breathless album was released in 1992, and it was certified Diamond - 12 million copies in the US.  It is one of the top 100 selling albums of all time.  Just think about all of the artists and albums that have come along in history.  Kenny G has one of the top 100 as far as sales go.

The track, Forever In Love is probably the best known song by Kenny G outside of Songbird.  It is used in countless weddings around the world.

Peabo Bryson lends his vocals for By The Time The Night Is Over, and any song that Peabo sings is a hit in my book.

Aaron Neville is featured in Even if My Heart Would Break, and Walter Afanasieff co-wrote six tracks on the album.  You may know Walter for his work with Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Luther Vandross, among others.

Two of the heavyweights, and quite possibly the best of their craft, together, in concert.
